2018/19 MOT Annual Training Update – November 2018

2018/19 MOT Annual Training Update – November 2018

31 October 2018

We are now past the halfway point for MOT Tester Annual Training for 2018/19. While the deadline of March 31st 2019 may seem far away, it is important for testers to ensure they are up-to-date with training – as failure to complete and record your training and assessment could render testers unable to test vehicles legally. To help testers ensure they remain compliant with the DVSA’s regulations you can complete your MOT Annual Training for the 2018/19 year with the RMI’s range of training packages.

The percentage of MOT testers passing their MOT annual training assessment has significantly fallen over the past month. The cautionary advice that we issued at the start of the training year – that the syllabus covers a broader spectrum of MOT testing knowledge than can be found in the MOT testing manual and that testers would therefore need to apply themselves more thoroughly to their training – is proving to be correct.

More and more testers are tackling their training as we progress through the year, and the combined effect of more complex subject matter and the higher pass mark is becoming apparent. Results are showing that testers are finding the assessment more challenging than in previous years.

We offer a selection of training options that provide testers with a method to suit their needs – so whether they prefer to learn via booklet, online or face-to-face, we can help.

To find a training package to suit the needs of your business, you can browse our six training options below. For more information about the annual assessment you can also visit www.rmitrainingacademy.co.uk/annual-assessment.

Annual Training Workbook

Annual training workbooks are a popular, cost-effective option as they allow you to train in your own time. The workbook contains login details for the online assessment, and there is also a form to sign within the book to record your training and keep on file. This option is available for class 4 & 7 and class 1 & 2 vehicles.

We allow 7-10 days for workbooks to arrive via post and you will need time to complete your training and assessment, so please order as soon as possible.

Workbooks are £45 + VAT, and you can order as many as you need by calling us.

Classroom Training at the RMI Academies

The RMI Academies hold annual training classroom sessions throughout the year, where you can conveniently complete your training and assessment in one day. Places must be booked at least one day in advance of the course date. To book a place, please call us.

This package costs £75 + VAT and includes a training session, an RMI workbook, access to the online assessment and tea/coffee.

New for 2018/19: Enhanced Classroom Training

Enhanced courses are also available at RMI Academy sites to provide testers with further training beyond the minimum 3 hours required, covering the implementation of EU Directive 2014/45. This one-day course costs £195 + VAT, including assessment costs, and you can call the Member Helpline to book.

Regional Training Events

The RMI is continuing to travel the UK for testers who prefer face-to-face training in their local area, with a range of Regional Training Events.

Each three-hour session will cover the 2018/19 MOT annual training syllabus; however, the online assessment will then need to be completed in your own time.

Our upcoming events for 2018 are:

Call us to book as may tickets as you need.

Tickets cost £70 + VAT, and places are strictly limited to 40 per event. Event times and location details are also provided on each event’s webpage above.

If you would like to attend a Regional Event in an area we have not provided, please contact the Member Helpline to register your interest for a training session.

E-Learning

The RMI provides e-learning packages for class 4 & 7 and class 1 & 2 vehicles, built from the ground up. It’s tailor-made to be straightforward to use and contains everything required by DVSA in one place. The platform contains knowledge tests as well as training documents and allows you to keep a record of your training online.

The cost for each e-learning package for the class of vehicle you test is £60 + VAT.

For more information, or to purchase an e-learning package, please call us.

On-Site Training

On-site training provides face-to-face training with a member of our field services team for up to 6 testers at a time and is held at your garage premises for your convenience. Testers will receive the mandatory 3 hours of training and will be given an assessment code to complete the annual assessment at their own leisure.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the extreme popularity of this training package, we recommend booking as soon as possible to secure preferable dates for your business.

The cost for on-site training starts from £245 + VAT for members. Access to the annual assessment is not included in this package and is £34 + VAT per candidate.

To book your preferred training package, please call the direct member helpline or 0845 305 4230.

Extra Information

All RMI training packages include three hours of training or self-learning (more where specified) for the 2018/19 syllabus for class 4 & 7 vehicles, plus the online assessment. Where specified, training is also available for class 1 & 2 vehicles. All options meet the mandatory annual requirements set by the DVSA.

Please note that once a login code has been issued for an online assessment or an e-learning package, it is not refundable under any circumstances.
