Q. A customer of ours has a 2013 Ford B-MAX. The car had a fault with the front door, not being able to open the door using the exterior door handle. We renewed the door handle release cable as we found it detached from its retaining bracket when we removed inner door trim panel. Now the vehicle has come back to the workshop with the same fault after only a few months. Can you help?

A. Yes, we have heard of this fault and it is due to the front door handle release cable becoming detached as you described. The fault can be rectified with a fairly simple repair. Remove the front door inner trim panel. Refit the front door handle release cable to the retaining bracket and secure with a cable tie (Fig.1).

Refit the front door inner trim panel. Repeat procedure for opposite side. Check that the front doors open using the exterior door handles to confirm the fault is rectified.
