BVRLA Survey - IGA Members Wanted to Assist with Connected Car White Paper
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) is currently gathering data for a new paper aiming to identify an industry-wide position around the issues raised by the introduction of connected cars and the data generated and recorded by these vehicles.
As part of this study, the BVRLA hopes to address the claim made in a recent paper published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) that data generated and recorded by connected cars is the property of vehicle manufacturers. The BVRLA paper will set out the position of the sector on the importance of data access to rental, lease and commercial fleet operators, as well as other connected sectors such as independent garages.
Access to real-time vehicle data is clearly of particular importance to the independent garage sector, with non-access likely to have a major impact in its annual customer base and revenue. For this reason, the BVRLA has asked the IGA to request information from members about the volume and value of fleet work carried out in independent garages, the aggregated results of which will form part of the final paper.
All data provided will be entirely confidential, anonymised and aggregated, with an overall figure provided in the final paper, and no individual company’s data will be shared externally.
