IGA Members Scoop CAT Awards
The annual Car and Accessory Trader (CAT) Awards took place on February 12th 2016 at Twickenham Stadium to celebrate the best of the independent motor industry.
IGA members beat fierce competition this year to win two awards - “Small Garage of the Year 2016” won by Main Street Garage in Huncote, and “Large Garage of the Year” won by Weldbank Garage in Chorley.
Both garages demonstrated a dedication to their customers, an excellent quality of servicing, and a passion which has helped their businesses thrive.
Small Garage of the Year 2016 - Main Street Garage
Main Street Garage was founded in its current premises over half a century ago, right in the middle of Huncote village, 6 miles south west of Leicester. Garage Director Simon Taylor is delighted by the recognition that the award brings for the garage and its staff. “The garage has become a real part of the village community, and we deal with everything from cars and commercial vehicles through to chain saws and automotive classics” he said.
“The staff have been here for many years, in some cases having trained here, and we have just taken on a new apprentice from the village. We know our customers and they know us, and we always try to ensure that we exceed their expectations.”
“Using the “Trust My Garage” programme, nationally run by the Independent Garage Association and the Retail Motor Industry Federation, helps us to do this and ensure that we communicate properly with our customers, and observe best practice”
He continued “Just because we are a rural garage, it does not mean that we can relax our investment in the latest diagnostic testing and analytical equipment and training. Unlike manufacturer franchised dealers and speciality outlets dealing in just one marque, or exhausts, tyres or tuning, we have to have the ability to deal with everything from a 50-year-old Land Rover still working on a farm to complex modern luxury saloons and typical family hatchbacks through to a hand built sports car.”
Main Streets Garage’s customers also appreciate that Huncote village is a “one stop shop” that can supply and fit tyres, deal with LPG vehicles and supply their fuel, carry out M.O.T. testing, and manage body repairs and restorations. “Life in Huncote is never boring” said Simon “our customers are our most valuable asset and we never forget that. We are all delighted to have won this national award and we intend to keep living up to it”
Main Street Garage are also proud to have been awarded a ‘2015 Award of Excellence’ from local The Shires magazine, which will be featured in their March addition.
Large Garage of the Year 2016 - Weldbank Garage
This is the second year in a row Weldbank Garage has won large Garage of the Year, and it’s not hard to see why.
Weldbank Garage was established in 1956 by Thomas Waring. He repaired anything and everything in his old tin workshop, working all hours to make it a success, supported by his wife Edna who did the books.
Over the years his three sons and other staff joined the business, and adjacent buildings and land were bought to cope with increasing demand. They became a Bosch Service Agent in 1989, when vehicles started to become more complex and they decided that training and state of the art equipment would be pivotal in taking the company to a new level.
Tommy retired in 1981 at 65 (but came in every day until he was 74) and now in its third generation, the business is run by his three sons Jack, Joe and Tony and Jack’s son Martyn. They are very proud of how their garage has grown over the years and of their parents, sadly no longer with them, who started it over 50 years ago. Weldbank Garage has grown from a one man repair workshop to one of the largest independent garages in the area, but is still committed to customer service, satisfaction and good value for money.
Their testimonials reflect their long history, with dozens of quotes from happy, loyal customers who have used them for thirty years or more and across multiple generations.
Congratulations to Main Street and Weldbank, who continue to raise the bar for independent garages and show that IGA members are the best in the industry.
