Annual Training 2018/19 Starts Now - Early Training Recommended

29 March 2018

April 1st brings the arrival of the MOT Annual Training syllabus for the 2018/19 training year, so if your MOT Testers are looking to get ahead with training ahead of the MOT Test changes on May 20th, you can now complete the necessary training with the RMI.

As the UK’s largest automotive trade body and leading MOT experts, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of the industry in a cost-effective way.

The 2018/19 syllabus requires a comprehensive understanding of the revised MOT Inspection Manual which comes into force on the 20th May 2018, and the pass mark has been increased to 70%.

The full 2018/19 annual training syllabus is:

  • Updates to testing procedures brought about by the implementation of EU Directive 2014/45
  • Guidelines for the safe testing of alternatively fuelled vehicles, including; hybrid, electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered vehicles
  • Test Quality Information and Data Protection
  • Review of previous annual training subjects and special notices

Once the EU Directive 2014/45 is implemented in the GB Testing Scheme there will be considerable changes that testers will need to be aware of and understand. The MOT Inspection Manual also will be completely re-written in a different format.

Because the changes will affect every tester, on every MOT test carried out – and will do so by the end of May, we are advising all testers to consider their 2018/19 Annual Training early. As the experts in this field who work closely with the DVSA, we can support your testers with thorough training to help them with the spike in difficulty this year.

To find a training package to suit the needs of your garage business, you can browse our five training options below. For more information about the annual assessment you can also visit our website here.

Annual Training Workbook

Our annual training workbooks are a popular, cost-effective option as they allow you to train in your own time. The workbook contains login details for the online assessment, and there is also a form to sign within the book to record your training and keep on file.

We allow 7-10 days for workbooks to arrive via post and you will need time to take the training and assessment, so please order as soon as possible.

Workbooks are £45 + VAT, and you can order as many as you need by calling us on 0845 305 4230.

Classroom Training at the RMI Academies

The RMI Academies are continuing to hold annual training classroom sessions, where you can conveniently complete both the training and assessment in one day. Places must be booked at least one day in advance of the course date. To book a place, please call us on 0845 305 4230.

This package costs £75 + VAT and includes a training session, an RMI workbook, access to the online assessment and tea/coffee. Click here to see the latest dates and availability on our live calendars.

*New for 2018/19*: enhanced, full-day annual training courses are also available at RMI Academy sites to provide testers with further training and practical elements covering the implementation of EU Directive 2014/45. This course costs £195, including assessment costs, and you can call us today to book. Find out more about this course here.

Regional Training Events

The RMI will continue to travel the nation for testers who prefer face-to-face training in their local area, with a range of Regional Training Events across the UK.

These three-hour training sessions will cover the 2018/19 MOT annual training syllabus; however, the online assessment will then need to be completed in your own time.

Click on the event you’d like to attend to book tickets. Tickets cost £70 + VAT, and places are strictly limited to 40 per event. Event time and location details are also provided on the booking pages.

If you would like to attend a Regional Event in an area we have not provided, please contact the Member Helpline to register your interest for a training session.

E-Learning

The RMI provides a tailor-made e-learning package, designed to be straightforward to use and containing everything required by DVSA in one place. The platform contains knowledge tests as well as training documents, and allows you to keep a record of your training online.

The cost for each e-learning package is £60 + VAT. This is also available for class 1 & 2 vehicles.

For more information, or to book the e-learning course, please call us on 0845 305 4230.

On-Site Training

We have reopened on-site training for the new testing year. This option provides face-to-face training with a member of our field services team for up to 6 testers at a time, and is held at your garage for your convenience. Testers will receive the mandatory 3 hours of training, and will be given an assessment code to complete the annual assessment at their own leisure.

Due to the extreme popularity of this training package, we recommend booking as soon as possible to secure preferable dates for your business.

The cost for on-site training starts from £245 + VAT for Members. Access to the annual assessment is not included in this package, and is £34 + VAT per candidate. To book on-site training, please call the Member Helpline on 0845 305 4230.

Extra Information

All RMI training packages include at least three hours of training or self-learning for the 2018/19 syllabus for class 4 & 7 vehicles, plus the online assessment. Where specified, training is also available for class 1 & 2 vehicles. All options meet the mandatory annual requirements set by the DVSA.

Alongside the above packages, we can provide additional training sessions that cover the EU Directive changes at RMI Academy of Automotive Skills sites, should the required 3 hours of training not be enough. Please enquire for more information.

Please note that once a login code has been issued for an online assessment or an e-learning package, it is not refundable under any circumstances.
