New MOT QC Scheme for Single NTs

New MOT QC Scheme for Single NTs

30 September 2016

Based on your feedback last month, the RMI have introduced a new MOT QC scheme for single NTs.

The package will cover the same as the main MOT QC package - two visits a year - with four additional visits to check test quality in-between the main visits. The additional visit could be an observed test, or potentially a vehicle re-inspection.

For example:

January - MOTQC (Full audit including test observation)

March - Observed test or re-inspection of a vehicle only

May - Observed test or re-inspection of a vehicle only

July - MOTQC (Full audit including test observation)

September - Observed test or re-inspection of a vehicle only

November - Observed test or re-inspection of a vehicle only

We’ve introduced this new package due to the change in requirements for internal QC issued in Special Notice 1-2015, that implied (for the first time) that MOT stations with a single NT now need a QC. The .gov website states:

“….AEs with only one tester may want to consider third party checks.”

DVSA say this can be accomplished by teaming up with a local garage that has a single tester so you can check each other, which is a low-cost option but in reality is very hard to achieve.

They are also saying that “regular checks” are needed, so we have designed our scheme to have visits every two months, as that is what the risk scoring guide states as minimum.
