Schools and Local Authorities Liaison Manager Update - August 2015
Every month our Schools and Local Authorities Liaison Manager will be sending updates on the work she is doing to raise the profile of the automotive industry.
“Throughout July I visited a number of IGA members to discuss apprenticeships and assisting me to do talks in local schools, and I’m really happy to see more members wanting to get involved. I have been continuing my work with schools around the country by taking part in career events, presenting to a primary school about roles in the industry and to Year 10 students about apprenticeships.
One of the garages I visited was the family run Cleevely Motors Ltd in Cheltenham, to meet the team and be introduced to their new Apprentice Rhys. I was welcomed by Matt, Shaun and Sharon into this unique garage. Cleevely Motors Ltd is a third generation family run business with a fantastic ethos focussing on excellent customer service and a high quality of workmanship.
I was then introduced to Rhys and technician Dean, who were (like everyone else) working on getting a customer’s vehicle back on the road. Rhys was sourced through contacts known to the garage and has a keen interest in cars. He has already has been working on his own original 70’s VW Beetle, which he plans to have on the road for when he passes his driving test later in the year.
Rhys will start his Apprenticeship at the college in September, but is already involved in the day to day activities at Cleevely Motors Ltd, including, assisting in the workshop, talking to customers and parts suppliers.
I will be looking at Rhys progress in the coming months to see what he experiences entering the Automotive Industry, as importantly he is the next generation of talent for the future.”
