The Benefits of Local Advertising

24 August 2015

Local advertising can be used to build your reputation and gain customers but many options can seem expensive. However you don’t need to spend lots of money on a huge marketing campaign as you only need to target your local area, and people tend to try and support small businesses. This makes it a lot easier and cheaper to get noticed than you might think.

We have compiled a list of free and inexpensive ways to locally advertise your services which will help you gain more customers and build a good reputation.

1. Use free online services

Make sure your profile information on Trust My Garage is correct and up to date. This makes it easier for people to find and review your business. You could also register to free local business directories such as Yelp and Yell, and if you add your company website to these directories they can also help your garage appear higher in online search results.

2. Run a local newspaper advert

Newspapers offer a variety of advert sizes and pricing, and allow you to specifically target your local area and build a trustworthy reputation.

The IGA also runs regional articles for Trust My Garage and Car Repair Plan throughout the year and newspapers will contact local garages to offer advertising alongside the article. This really allows you to stand out because you will be the first business local people will see after reading about our consumer schemes.

3. Ask your existing customers for feedback

Testimonials can be displayed on your website, social media and adverts. If you are a member of Trust My Garage you can ask customers to write a review on www.TrustMyGarage.co.uk. Offering referral discounts or a competition to win a free or discounted service provides an incentive to write reviews.

4. Turn your car into an advert

Custom window and bumper stickers are cheap to print and there are a number of online options, or you can support other local businesses by dealing with a local printer company. You could go even further and decal your whole car.

5. Create a Company Facebook Page

Facebook is a great free advertising platform. Creating a business page will allow people to follow and review your business, and you can post local motoring news and stories, customer testimonials, exclusive offers and more to build up an online community. You could also join local groups and post regular comments to be seen as an active and trusted part of the community.

6. Brand everything

Attach business cards to paperwork for your customers, keep some flyers on your desk, or offer free branded car stickers, lanyards or pens in your reception. There are thousands of products you can add your branding to so get in touch with your local print company or look online to find some inexpensive options. make the most of the Trust My Garage logo and if you are registered for Car Repair Plan, the “Trusty” logo. Both can be freely downloaded at www.TMGmembers.org or in the Members Area of the IGA website.
