Dear Member,

You will have seen recently in the press the RMI’s response to the Chancellor’s announcement to extend the period of time before a new car receives its first MOT from three years to four. This raises a serious concern around the UK’s excellent safety record and will, without a doubt, cause more fatalities. We are working on a united front with other trade associations to bring about an awareness to consumers. Watch this space - we will keep you informed as things progress.

Many of you have benefitted from our technical training provision and feedback has been extremely positive. Due to this we are writing a suite of three more courses based on multimeter usage, sensors on actuators, and oscilloscopes, which will start to become available towards the end of the year. We are also looking to recruit another technical trainer to help with demand. Please bear with us if you are waiting for a course, we will get to you soon.

Another project we have under development is the IGA Diagnostic Specialist accreditation, which we are hoping to launch early next year so members can promote their diagnostic competence. You can read more about it, including criteria for the accreditation, in the bulletin below.

As the RMI we are made up of 7 Associations, the Petrol Retailers Association have offered their bulletin to any IGA garage who has a petrol forecourt. If you would like a copy please contact our member helpline on 0845 305 4230.

As always, please contact us with your thoughts, comments and good news stories.

Best regards,

Stuart James
IGA Director
