Dear Member,

Within the next couple of weeks you will receive a poster highlighting the dangers of fake parts. This IGA initiative is being driven by the Intellectual Property Office and Trading Standards. Please ensure you don’t treat it as junk mail and display the poster in as prominent position as you can within your garage. This supports our position, the Governments and yours that consumer supplied parts are becoming a serious issue for the industry. Please see the article below.

The DVSA have announced that they are making changes to the way they assess risk for MOT Stations in order to improve MOT quality. Individual Testers data will now be included in the risk rating for the garage. This new approach to risk will mean that your traffic light status may change much more frequently. We have put together further information on the changes below and have explained how we are providing support for members.

To further improve services to members, we have decided to take a step back in time and provide a dedicated member phone line that bypasses some of the automated technology we use to handle our high volumes of calls. This IGA member ‘hotline’ is only for existing IGA members because we recognise that many of you do not like the options in our system. This new number will be a standard geographical number and will be live soon.

The Government appears to be struggling with Brexit and its communication to small businesses is lacking. We appreciate that many independent garages are concerned, and we are aware that there are many factors that could affect garages, however your local customers will still need their car serviced. We are keeping a close eye on the issues that could affect your business and will keep you updated on only these issues without getting bogged down in hysteria. We know that 76% of independents are in favour of leaving, and whilst there will be a period of uncertainty, I’m sure we will come out the other side of it stronger.

Best regards,

Stuart James
