Dear Member,

We have been continuously raising awareness of the shortage of skilled technicians in the UK and were disappointed that the automotive industry wasn’t recognised in the Autumn Budget. This is despite the launch of the UK’s National Retraining Scheme and recommitting to increasing apprenticeships. You can read our full statement below, and we will keep you updated with developments on this topic.

We are aware that there are concerns surrounding the new roadworthiness directive and changes to the MOT test, particularly the changes around advisories. We have published the DVSA’s latest comments below and will continue to highlight these concerns in our discussions with the DVSA. We also suspect that this will feature as a topic in next year’s MOT annual training.

In the New Year, we will be launching “Independents in the News”. This weekly email bulletin has been developed to keep you up to date with independent specific news and press coverage so you are always in the loop on matters that affect your business. You can expect this in your inbox every Friday afternoon starting from January 5th.

Congratulations to all members that have been shortlisted for the inaugural Workshop Awards, which is being sponsored by the IGA. We look forward to seeing you on December 11th and wish you the best of luck.

This being the last bulletin of 2017, from all the IGA team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and another prosperous year ahead. Your trade body is here for you.

Best regards,

Stuart James
