Dear Member,

Any time now, you will receive your copy of the 2019 Garage Work Provider Report. This invaluable guide will help you to navigate the varying business models, costs and terms of the major consumer facing third party work providers so you can make a more informed decision which of these, if any, would work for your garage. Please continue to send in feedback of your own experiences with these companies so we can keep the investigations going into their practices, and you can read more about the upcoming report in the bulletin below.

Trust My Garage is the IGA’s alternative to work providers and is included as part of your membership. It is an approved Code of Practice that will never charge the customer or you the garage, and it has also been developed to work alongside your own garage branding to act as a badge of quality for your business.

The television campaign for Trust My Garage began airing in March and is moving from strength to strength as the number of motorists searching for the nearest member continues to rise. We are doing this to support your business, so as TMG starts to build into a household name, please ensure you are maximising this opportunity by promoting your membership of the scheme. See the article below for suggestions on marketing.

The IGA is continuing to work with the Intellectual Property Office to raise awareness of the ongoing issues surrounding counterfeit and consumer supplied car parts. We have reissued the official Government advice below alongside the newest article in our “major factors impacting the independent sector” series exploring the issues with the supply, availability and cost of both genuine and counterfeit parts.

Every year we relay a message from the DVSA about the number of testers automatically suspended from testing for not completing their MOT annual training by March 31st. Again, this year it is still high and the business disruption this causes is unavoidable. Should you not do this training on time you will not able to return to testing until you have completed the following year’s training, submitted a training log and taken part in a DVSA observed demonstration test. The new annual training year has begun, so please consider taking your training early to avoid this.

Best regards,

Stuart James
