There has been a lot in the news recently surrounding the discounting of MOTs. This week I have had discussions with several magazines to represent the IGA’s very clear position on this. For every MOT that is discounted our argument for an increase in fees with government departments is weakened, as their standard response remains “if you can afford to discount you do not need a price increase”.
We know that IGA members are professional in the services they offer and more importantly need to be paid the correct amount for those services. Less scrupulous businesses that invest less in their future and cut corners can provide services cheaper which detriments all the good work that quality independents deliver. In the long term we will continue to lobby for a minimum fee, or even more radically remove the idea of a ‘fee’ completely and allow businesses to carry out MOTs at their usual labour rate. We will continue to represent your views and try to find an innovative solution that works for members, the government and of course the motoring public.
Our research for the next Garage Work Provider Report is underway and we have had a great deal of response from the providers themselves, however we need your help to collate your experiences with different work providers. Please follow the link in the article below where you can take the short, anonymous survey and refresh your memory of the original report.
You will now have received your posters from the IGA and Intellectual Property Office’s campaign about the dangers of counterfeit and consumer supplied car parts. We hope you have displayed them somewhere prominent where your customers will see them, and please let us know if you want more copies.
The new IGA training guide is in preparation as we write, so you’ll soon have updated information about every MOT, technical and annual training course in a handy printed guide. As a benefit of membership prices are subsidised and only available to members.
