2020/21 MOT Annual Training Update – Halfway Point

2020/21 MOT Annual Training Update – Halfway Point

30 September 2020

Have you completed your MOT tester Annual Training for this year? With statistics from the DVSA suggesting an extra 1.3 million MOT tests will be required in October, and the training year now halfway gone, it’s more important than ever for your MOT knowledge to be up-to-date.

With this year’s assessment pass mark being increased to 80%, it’s vital for testers to complete their training and assessment in plenty of time. Furloughed employees can also legally undertake training, provided it does not generate revenue for your business in the duration of their furlough.

As the experts in this field who work closely with the DVSA, we can support your testers with thorough training to help them ensure they have access to a method of training designed to suit their needs, including options to carry out annual training from home.

The 2020/21 topics for group B (cars) are:

  • The requirements for issuing various documents
  • The disciplinary points system
  • Which vehicle categories fall under Group B
  • The MOT Inspection Manual for cars and passenger vehicles

The 2020/21 topics for group A (motorcycles) are:

  • The requirements for issuing various documents
  • The disciplinary points system
  • Which vehicle categories fall under Group A
  • The MOT Inspection Manual for motorcycles and sidecars

You can browse our training options below, or for more information about the annual assessment you can visit RMItrainingAcademy.co.uk/annual-assessment.

The following annual training packages are currently available:

Annual Training Workbook

Our cost-effective annual training workbooks allow testers to train from anywhere, in their own time. The workbooks contain self-learning material, sample assessment questions, a log and declaration form as evidence that training has been completed, and personal login details to access the online assessment. This option is also available for class 1 & 2 vehicles (motorcycles).

Workbooks cost £45 + VAT, and you can order as many as you need by calling us on 0845 305 4230.

Our tailor-made e-learning platform lets testers complete their training entirely online. The system is straightforward to use, contains guided self-learning and knowledge tests, and allows you to keep a record of your training online. This option is also available for class 1 & 2 vehicles.

Each e-learning package costs £60 + VAT. For more information, or to book the e-learning course, please call us on 0845 305 4230.

Classroom Training at the RMI Academies

The RMI Academies offer classroom-based training sessions at each of our training sites, where testers can complete their three hours of training and Annual Assessment in one half-day session. Places must be booked at least one day in advance of the course date, and capacity is strictly limited for each class to comply with social distancing rules.

This package costs £95 + VAT and includes a training session, an RMI workbook, access to the online assessment and tea/coffee. To book a place, please call us on 0845 305 4230.

Enhanced Annual Training Classroom Sessions

Enhanced courses are also available at RMI Academy sites to provide testers with further training beyond the minimum 3 hours required, and again has a limited classroom capacity.

This one-day course costs £195 + VAT, including assessment costs, and you can call the Member Helpline to book.

On-Site Training

We are once again providing on-site training this year. This option provides face-to-face training with a member of our field services team for up to 6 testers at a time, and is held at your garage premises providing suitable social distancing measures are in place within your business. Testers will receive the mandatory 3 hours of training and will be given an assessment code to complete the annual assessment at their own leisure.

Please note: Due to the extreme popularity of this package, we recommend booking your training date as far in advance as possible to secure your business’ preferred training date.

On-site training starts from £245 + VAT for RMI Members.

Access to the annual assessment is not included in this package and is £34 + VAT per candidate.

To book on-site training, please call the Member Helpline on 0845 305 4230.

Regional Training Events

The RMI is continuing to offer Regional MOT Training Events for testers who prefer face-to-face training in their local area.

These three-hour training sessions will cover the 2020/21 MOT annual training syllabus; however, the online assessment will then need to be completed in your own time. View our upcoming dates below – however; cancellations are possible due to lockdown restrictions.

You can book tickets by calling 0845 305 4230 or click on the event you’d like to attend for more information, including locations and timings. Tickets cost £70 + VAT, and places are strictly limited to 40 per event.
