Autodata Technical Issue 32 – Wind noise on 2009 Volkswagen Touareg
Each month the Autodata team answers a common technical question and provides a printable document with technical diagrams to download and keep, exclusively for IGA members. This month, a solution is found for a wind noise when road testing a Volkswagen Touareg.
Q. We are having trouble finding the cause of a wind noise on a 2009 Volkswagen Touareg. We have heard the noise on road test but we are unable to locate the problem in the workshop. Has anyone reported this noise before?
A.This is a known fault that affects Touareg models from 2008 to 2009. The cause of the wind noise is due to an unsatisfactory design of the door mirror cover. Remove the door mirror cover. Thoroughly clean area (Fig 1.1) on door mirror mounting.
Apply a length of butyl tape (approximately 80 mm) to the door mirror mounting (Fig 1.2). Refit the door mirror cover. Road test the vehicle to ensure the wind noise has gone.
