Each month the Autodata team answers a common technical question and provides a printable document with technical diagrams to download and keep, exclusively for IGA members.

Q. We have a Volkswagen UP! in the workshop with a seat heater switch that sticks in the depressed position. We replaced this switch a short time ago for the same fault and the fault has reoccurred. Do you know of any reason why this is happening so frequently?

A. Yes, we have come across this fault before on UP! models →2012 (VIN →012785) and it is due to insufficient clearance between the seat heater switch and its surrounding trim panel. Remove the centre console multi switch assembly. Ensure correct routing of the seat heater switch wiring harness. Check if the seat heater switch operates correctly. If the seat heater switch does not stick in the depressed position: Apply felt tape, available from Volkswagen parts department, to the centre console multi switch assembly as shown (fig. 1.1.).

Refit the centre console multi switch assembly. If the seat heater switch does stick in the depressed position: Fit new seat heater switch.
