Automatic Pension Enrolment - How Long Until Your Staging Date?

29 July 2016

If you know that your staging date is less than six months away, expect to receive a letter from The Pensions Regulator soon regarding your automatic enrolment.

They are beginning to write to over 95,000 small and micro employers with less than six months to go until their staging date, to tell them it’s time to choose a pension scheme.

Remember, your staging date is the date the Pensions Act law comes into effect for you, and auto enrolment is your legal duty.

Lower paid staff only get tax relief from the government in certain types of pension schemes, so this is one of the things you’ll need to consider when choosing a scheme. If you haven’t chosen one yet, click here for advice on where to begin.

If you’re not sure which stage you are at or what you need to do, this page is a great place to start. Here you can find out your staging date, watch a video outlining everything you need to do, find out what happens if you don’t comply, and more.

It’s important that you understand what to do and by when. To work out what you need to do, when you need to do it and to make sure that you only complete the tasks relevant to you, answer the questions in The Pensions Regulator’s ‘Duties Checker’ by clicking here.

The Pensions Regulator has also added a new FAQ area to the website, which is worth a read as it’s based on commonly asked calls they receive surrounding automatic enrolment.
