Remit Apprenticeship Training 2018

Remit Apprenticeship Training 2018

30 May 2018

Remit’s state-of-the-art Academy in Derby is centrally situated to serve the whole of England and offers a unique training solution for independent garages nationwide. The Academy, which opened its doors in September 2017, is able to provide the benefits of residential block training at low cost in an exclusively automotive training facility. Apprenticeship programmes for light vehicle, heavy vehicle, body repair, paint and parts are available for level 2, level 3 and the new apprenticeship standards.

Rail and road links to Derby are excellent and this has been a significant factor in the increasing number of apprentices travelling to the Academy from all corners of England.

Since September the Academy has seen over 500 apprentices attending block release programmes. Without exception employers visiting the Academy have been impressed by the classroom and workshop facilities and equipment. The culture is focussed on raising the professional image of the industry and giving the apprentices the best possible learning experience. Time in the academy is a mix of practical and classroom learning and all trainers are fully qualified in their respective trade and experienced trainers.

Apprentice accommodation is in an approved quality Derby hotel on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Transport is included from railway station to academy and then from academy to hotel and return throughout the week. There are very close ties between the academy team and the hotel so that the learners have a safe and enjoyable experience during and after training. The employer is responsible for travel costs to and from Derby at the start and end of each week. If booked in advance the train fares are normally excellent value. Apprentices travel on the Monday morning and Friday afternoon.

One major advantage of the Remit Academy is that apprentices can start at any time of the year based on employer demand – there are no constraints of academic years or college term times. The peak time however for employers taking on apprentices in the automotive industry continues to be the summer months when the best potential applicants are on the market. This has traditionally been the time that employer thoughts turn to whether their company are to invest in a new apprentice. This year will be no exception.

We are all aware of the difficulty often experienced in finding qualified technicians. Recruiting a quality apprentice and ‘growing your own’ is a tried and tested way of beating the skills shortage.

Remits recruitment team can assist in short listing applicants for interview and advise and guide employers through that process. Equally if an employer already has a particular person in mind the process of employing that person as an apprentice can be readily explained.

Employers considering employing an apprentice and looking for a one stop solution should contact Remit for more information on 01159759550 or automotive.vacancies@remit.co.uk.

There is also currently a government incentive of £1000 for employers taking on a 16-18 year old apprentice.
