Firstly, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Collison as Chairman of the IGA. Rob is the Managing Director of Collison Motoring Services and has sat on the IGA executive committee for over 10 years. He succeeds our previous Chairman Colin Parlett, who I would like to personally thank for everything he has done for the IGA.
This week, the IGA was part of a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) committee to discuss the renewal of the EU block exemption regulations in May 2023. The IGA position is very clear, independent garages will need to have access to VM technical information whether the regulations are renewed or not. We will bring you further updates as things progress.
If you expressed an interest in joining our upcoming ‘access to technical information’ project, you will be contacted within the next few weeks with further information. We expect verification audits to begin in around six weeks’ time. Those of you who are interested in the ‘comparison website reward scheme’ project will receive more details at a later date. I apologise for the lack of detail at this stage; this is due to us needing to know the number of interested members in order to move both projects forward from their early stages.
As lockdown begins to lift, please be aware that HSE are actively visiting premises and carrying out spot checks to ensure that businesses are still abiding by Government regulations. Be careful you don’t drop your guard too soon, and if you are worried that your garage isn’t COVID-Secure you can still book an IGA Covid Compliance audit for peace of mind.
There is only one month remaining for testers to complete their mandatory 2020/21 MOT annual training. The assessment pass mark is now 80%, so it is vital that testers complete their training with time to spare in case retakes are needed. We have a variety of last-minute training packages to support your testers, including options to carry out training from home. Please give us a call or find further details below.
Finally, we have been made aware that calls are being made to members from an 01722 number, claiming to be from the RMI or Trust My Garage. We will always call you from an 01788 number, so if a call seems suspicious, please call us directly on 01788 225 908.
