The long awaited 4-1-1 MOT consultation has been released and the government seem to be hell bent on pushing it through with a claim of reducing the burden on motorists and saving £100 million in MOT fees.
There are countless reasons why this is not good for the UK. The fundamental point is that our outstanding road safety record will no longer be among the best in the world, no matter how small the downturn it is a step backwards. We can be sure that death rates, serious injuries, mileage adjustments, repair costs and failure rates will increase, all because 3 year old cars are not being tested for an additional twelve month period.
Please read more about this issue below and if you have a view send your own response to the consultation. We are also awaiting news from the DfT about the Vehicles of Historic Interest consultation, which closed in November.
The DVSA recently stated that MOT testers who do not complete their annual training by March 31st each year may face disciplinary consequences.
If you have already completed your assessment, remember you must also record it. To do this, make sure you click on the “Annual Assessment” link in the MOT testing service, NOT the “Tester Training Link” link, as the DVSA have advised us that many testers are clicking the wrong link.
If you haven’t started yours yet, all the information you need is in the bulletin below, or call us on 0845 305 4230 for more information.
Finally, many members who subscribe to our Technical Helpline service receive monthly printed copies of the Tech Tips Bulletin. To help keep them in pristine condition we will be providing a new binder with the next issue.
