In a victory for garages, the Chancellor announced in Monday’s Autumn Budget that business rates will be cut by one third for small businesses for the next two years, followed by a rates revaluation in 2021. We are sure you’ll be pleased with this news and if you have any questions about how the changes in the Budget might affect your business, please get in touch.
You may not be aware that new legislation is coming into force on 1st April 2019 called ‘Making Tax Digital for VAT’. The initiative means that businesses with a turnover above the VAT threshold will need to keep digital records and submit tax returns using certain software. Please read the article below explaining how you need to prepare, and we will bring you more information as we receive it.
You should also note that the garage risk rating is changing, and the new assessment will be in place within the next few weeks. We are expecting to receive further details from DVSA imminently, but you can read the information already released below.
The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills is launching a third training venue in the South this month. This new Winchester location will initially focus on MOT and annual training, and joins our Southam and Runcorn sites to create a training network across the country. You should now have received the IGA 2018/19 training course guide which contains information on all courses and MOT annual training packages available at RMI Academies, plus exclusive on-site technical training courses for IGA members. If you have any training enquiries, please don’t hesitate to call us.
Finally, we are continuing our research for the next IGA Work Provider report to be published in the new year and as always we are looking to our members to share their experiences for the benefit of others. This month we are particularly looking for members who have experience of MOT Protect (and/or the Think Driver Network). Please get in contact if you can help by calling the direct member hotline or 0845 305 4230.
